AASPIRE Autism Healthcare Accommodation Tool

What is this resource?

The AASPIRE Autism Healthcare Accommodations Tool (AHAT) is an online tool that helps autistic individuals and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities create a personalized accommodations report to share with their health care providers. Users complete a questionnaire about their communication preferences, sensory needs, and other supports that may improve health care visits. The tool then generates a customized report with recommendations to help providers make appointments more accessible before, during, and after visits.

How to use

This tool can be used by individuals, families/caregivers, and service providers to prepare youth and young adults with disabilities for health care appointments by identifying individual accommodation needs and developing a personalized plan to share with providers. It can support self-advocacy, improve communication between patients and health care providers, and increase access to patient-centered care. It can be used at the beginning of an individual’s transition to adult care and updated over time as their needs change.
