Services/Programs Description

We are pleased to announce that the year-round application for HEELS UP is now open for Fall 2025! HEELS UP is an inclusive higher education program where students with intellectual disabilities transitioning to adulthood access impactful opportunities to pursue personal goals in academics, employment, community engagement, and beyond. Our students benefit from the premier teaching, research, and service conducted throughout the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The student experience:
- Audit 1-3 courses at UNC,
- Experience integrated peer learning,
- Engage in weekly coaching sessions,
- Receive support through staff-proctored study halls 2 – 4 times per week
- Optional opportunity to live on campus
- Opportunities to engage in community and social events on UNC campus


Eligibility

HEELS UP is a program for adults with intellectual disability.


Cost

Regular UNC undergraduate tuition fees apply, plus a HEELS UP program fee ($500 per semester). If students choose to live on campus, regular UNC housing fees apply.
